A Life-Altering Experience: My Near-Death Encounter

Chapter 1: A Routine Day Turns Into a Nightmare

During my high school years, I was engrossed in preparations for my final exams. Just days before the tests, I collected my admit card, feeling healthy and vibrant. I spent time with friends, enjoying carefree moments before returning home. Little did I know that disaster was lurking around the corner.

That evening, while my father and brother were away on work commitments, my mother and I were home together. I felt a minor discomfort brewing in my body, but I brushed it off as insignificant. We had dinner together, but soon after, a strange sensation began to grow in my stomach. I dismissed it as a mere appetite issue.

However, that oversight would lead to a life-altering experience. I went to bed, and as the pain escalated, I eventually succumbed to sleep. Around midnight, I sensed a severe feeling in my abdomen, akin to a muscle tearing away. Although I was deeply asleep, that sensation jolted me awake.

When I opened my eyes, it was around 7 AM. Despite my extended rest, my body felt as though it had worked tirelessly through the night. Confused, I attempted to stand, but my legs trembled, my heart raced, and a cold sweat enveloped me.

Still perplexed by my state, I took a deep breath and headed to the washroom, although I knew I needed medical attention. Moments after starting to brush my teeth, I lost consciousness, hitting my head against the wall. Thankfully, there were no sharp objects nearby.

When I regained consciousness, panic set in. I tried to call out to my mother but lacked the energy to make a sound. Lying on the floor, I mustered the strength to drag myself to the door and scream for her. Luckily, she heard me.

She rushed in, her eyes filled with tears and fear as she saw me on the ground. Shocked, she lifted me into bed and hurried to get warm water. Despite her insistence, I could only manage one sip before I vomited blood and fainted again. The trauma was indescribable.

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself in a hospital bed, surrounded by my tearful family. I felt utterly helpless, needles in my arms, unable to speak. Hours passed before I regained some energy to inquire about what had happened to me.

My mother reassured me, "Don't worry, dear, you’ll be home soon." But her worried expression left me doubtful. Eventually, she revealed in a hushed tone, "You have an ulcer." My heart sank. I wanted to cry but couldn’t bring myself to show weakness in front of her.

As I processed the news, my medical reports arrived, indicating my hemoglobin levels were critically low at around 5, while normal levels range from 11 to 18. This was why I had collapsed in the bathroom, my body trembling from the blood loss.

I was transferred to a specialized care ward and given two pints of fresh blood to stabilize me for further procedures, as I faced significant internal bleeding. That night was excruciating; I battled a fever over 101 degrees. Gradually, my body began to recover.

The following day, I underwent an endoscopy to assess the internal damage caused by the ulcer and H. Pylori bacteria. The procedure was daunting, involving a long tube inserted through my mouth into my stomach.

Afterward, I was moved to another room where I was administered various medications. My hands swelled from the constant need for injections, and I can still feel that pain today.

After four days in the hospital, I was finally discharged but instructed to rest for an entire month. During that time, I missed my friends deeply and feared my journey had come to an end. However, with the support of family, friends, and divine blessings, I slowly regained my strength.

Now, six years later, the memories of that traumatic experience still linger. I appreciate your time in reading about this pivotal moment in my life. Please listen to your body and take care of yourself before it's too late!
