Take More Pictures: Cherish Every Moment with Your Loved Ones

Written on

Chapter 1: A Heartfelt Farewell

Today, I experienced the loss of my beloved cat, Budgy. Ironically, he was known for his stubbornness—he never budged for anyone. This wasn’t out of spite but rather because he was blissfully unaware of the world’s complexities. Budgy had a heart of gold, living in a carefree manner that shielded him from the pains most beings face. When it was time to come indoors, he would climb the front porch screen door instead of simply meowing or scratching. There were times he ventured to the roof, only to get stuck and meow for hours until someone came to rescue him. Each time he greeted us with a warm purr.

He was a large orange cat, surprisingly hefty for just 10 and a half months old. Despite his size, he embodied innocence and purity. Just moments ago, as I petted him farewell, he remained lifeless, save for a faint purr in his chest. He left us merely five minutes ago. I had hoped for more time. We often believe there will always be more time—an illusion we cherish in moments of contentment.

Caught up in my own ambitions and worries, I only realized while saying goodbye that I had no photographs or memories of him.

Capture Memories, Live Fully

Make it a point to create lasting memories and relish life as fully as possible. Don’t wait until it's too late—learn from my sorrowful experience: take pictures of your lived moments. Snap photos of your loved ones, your pets, and the places that hold significance to you. Document the people and things that bring you joy. You never know when a moment might be your last. Photographs can alleviate some of the grief and regret that follows the loss of those dear to you. While I may not have the answers to life's profound questions, one lesson stands clear: take more pictures.
