Understanding the Rise of Dangerous Women in the Workplace

Chapter 1: The Threat of Dark Tetrad Personalities
In many workplaces, individuals with harmful traits can significantly impact their colleagues. A notable example is a woman who led a union in an office with 200 employees. As a mother of two, she initially appeared supportive, even asking about my career aspirations. I expressed interest in assisting her during interviews with management, given my extensive experience as a manager. However, this seemingly innocent ambition posed a threat to her low conscientiousness.
This claim is not unfounded. On two separate occasions, I had to resolve the chaos she created, including her reckless disposal of crucial legal documents required for her cases. I ended up investing over 60 hours rectifying her negligence. Had the agency been aware of her disorganized approach, she would never have attained a managerial position.
Her indifference towards the well-being of those she was meant to assist was glaring. It soon became evident that her primary motivation was not to help clients but to secure a managerial role and manipulate staff using her Machiavellian, narcissistic, psychopathic, and sadistic traits. She embodies a Dark Tetrad personality, lacking the moral compass that would deter her from exploiting others for personal gain.
Her Machiavellian tendencies prevented her from relinquishing any semblance of power. Instead, she thrived on the prospect of acquiring more influence. With a remarkable ability to extract private information from unsuspecting colleagues, she would promptly relay this intel to management, who were more than willing to listen.
Her narcissism kept her ambitions hidden, as she desperately sought a higher social status. Occasionally, her true intentions would surface, but most people chose to stay silent, fearing backlash instead of exposing her.
To provide further insight, when I transitioned to the IT department, I discovered she had also moved up, working at a higher level than I. During a "UX get-together" aimed at organizational education, a female designer from my previous office warned me about this dark personality, advising against sharing any private information with her due to her tendency to weaponize it.
It's disconcerting to hear friends acknowledge her deceitful nature yet remain silent. Additionally, she employed a male counterpart with similar traits. Psychopaths often share an affinity for one another, and this individual made his disturbing background known to the office during lunch breaks—his history included substance abuse and criminal behavior, which served as a clear indicator of his psychopathy.
His presence was marked by subtle intimidation, as he alluded to his past associations and capabilities. But how does he relate to my experience? She actively obstructed my career progression by manipulating union dynamics, a tactic she used against many employees. My brother-in-law, familiar with her from their hometown, confirmed her malicious character.
