Building a Profitable Business in Just Two Hours Daily

Chapter 1: The Potential of Limited Time
Every limitation can serve as a catalyst for creativity.
As a resident of Amsterdam, I have found that dedicating just 120 minutes each day is sufficient to develop a thriving business. However, many individuals struggle to allocate this time for their own ventures. They are willing to invest eight hours into someone else's aspirations, yet hesitate to spend just two hours nurturing their own.
Let me share how it’s possible.
I currently balance a 9-to-5 job while managing my own business. This means my time is limited; I seldom have four uninterrupted hours during weekdays to dedicate solely to my entrepreneurial pursuits. Often, I find myself with only one or two hours, sometimes even less. Therefore, I prioritize high-impact tasks.
Despite these constraints, I have successfully established a solo business generating $6,000 to $7,000 each month, which surpasses the full-time earnings of many Australians. Achieving this level of income requires sacrifices.
Here's the reality: I draft most of my articles on my daily commute. I forgo binge-watching Netflix or indulging in reality shows in the evenings. My weekends are reserved for my business, where I dedicate four to five hours each Saturday and Sunday mornings. To ensure adequate rest, I avoid socializing from Sunday through Thursday nights.
Hard work and sacrifices are essential.
The path can feel isolating, and self-doubt may frequently surface. You might grapple with feelings of inadequacy. If you are unwilling to face these challenges, you might want to reconsider.
I can only guide those who are committed to putting in the effort—there are no shortcuts.
Building an Audience and Personal Brand
The foundation of your success lies in cultivating an audience and a personal brand. I have amassed an audience of over 40,000 across various platforms. While this might not seem monumental, it’s akin to filling an entire stadium in Melbourne. This audience size is greater than 90% of the people I know and is more than sufficient to aim for a six-figure annual income.
If you're not creating your own audience, you're simply contributing to someone else's.
Building an audience is a gradual process, and developing a portfolio of content is a long-term endeavor. That’s why I recommend retaining your day job while embarking on this journey. This approach allows you to enjoy job security while channeling your creativity into content and personal branding.
To get started, consider the following steps:
- List your interests, hobbies, and areas of curiosity.
- Reflect on the skills you've acquired through your 9-to-5 role.
- Envision your ideal life in the next three to five years.
Once you have this information, combine these elements to create a distinct personal brand. I have integrated my expertise in government policy, marketing, personal branding, writing, content creation, and literature into a unique brand that stands out. This uniqueness means I face little direct competition.
Focus on building your audience first, then create the one-person business you desire.
Narrowing Your Focus
Concentrate on one target customer and address one specific problem using one method. My greatest error was overextending myself. A year ago, I attempted to launch three digital products simultaneously along with a newsletter. My scattered efforts resulted in failure across the board.
The most disappointing part? They were offered for free.
After pouring four months into these projects, I received no leads, no income, and no positive outcomes. I experienced significant burnout, which set my business back for months.
I was emotionally drained, and my confidence plummeted. In retrospect, that period was one of the most challenging of my life. It took me three months before I could produce another digital product.
Now, I have trained myself to develop digital products in a matter of weeks—or even days. The quickest product I ever launched took just one hour. Instead of striving for perfection, I concentrate on resolving one specific issue for a singular customer profile.
This approach liberates you from the pressure of trying to accomplish everything at once. Avoid attempting to “boil the ocean”—it will only lead to burnout.
Self-Improvement as a Necessity
The advancement of your solo business is fundamentally linked to your personal growth. Your business cannot outpace your development; you are the primary hurdle and the source of any challenges your business faces. The sooner you accept this truth, the easier your journey will become.
Thus, self-improvement is not optional.
I devote a significant portion of my free time to:
- Reading literature on business, marketing, and sales.
- Enrolling in online courses from creators I admire and trust.
- Seeking mentorship from individuals who have achieved my desired outcomes.
Without this commitment, a one-person business is unlikely to flourish.
Prepare for a Longer Journey
My writing journey has spanned five years, but I only began taking it seriously two years ago when I left my previous job. Your timeline will differ, but be prepared for a lengthy process—longer than you may anticipate. At 28, I have given myself until 33 to fully establish my business.
Can you commit to five or more years of consistent effort without any promise of success? This is the reality of entrepreneurship.
Although it’s a lengthy path, I have thoroughly enjoyed the process and look forward to creating each morning. If you can embrace a five-year timeline, your chances of success become significantly higher.
I have yet to encounter someone who has consistently worked on their goals for five years without achieving some level of success.
