# Insights from a Year of Daily Writing on Medium

Chapter 1: The Journey Begins
A year ago, I took a leap and decided to commit to writing on Medium every single day. Although I don't consider myself a skilled writer yet, this daily practice has transformed my life in ways I never expected. Initially, I had only dabbled in writing on the platform, posting an article here and there and receiving a few comments and claps.
The thought of becoming a "real" writer felt like a far-off dream until I had a burst of inspiration. I challenged myself to write 30 articles in 30 days, regardless of the circumstances. This idea captured my imagination, and I embraced it wholeheartedly.
The beginning was tough. I often found myself struggling to express anything meaningful, resorting to recycled self-help advice riddled with poor grammar. It was a challenging start, but somehow, I persevered. Now, nearly 380 days later, I’m proud to say that I haven’t missed a single day of writing.
Writing is a peculiar endeavor. Completing 365 articles merely earns you a spot at the kiddie table; it’s just the beginning. Nevertheless, I take solace in the fact that I’m at least present in the room. This experience has also made me acutely aware of how much I still have to learn. The initial thrill has faded, leaving me feeling exposed and vulnerable. I can either push forward or risk sinking.
The Reality of Writing
Writing prolifically allows you to call yourself a writer, which is sufficient for me. However, there are varying degrees of talent among writers. I recognize my own limitations and understand I may never reach the heights of some outstanding authors.
It’s frustrating to witness some truly brilliant writing go unnoticed while mediocre content receives applause. This discrepancy highlights the competitive nature of the platform, where people often manipulate the system for financial gain. I frequently find myself torn between my aspirations and the realities of this environment, leading my writing to sometimes feel scattered and unfocused.
Embracing Freedom on Medium
Despite these challenges, I cherish the freedom Medium has afforded me. I no longer worry about potential disapproval. I write and publish what resonates with me, unbothered by negative comments or rejections. While some publications frequently feature my work, others consistently decline it. Regardless, I persist.
For newcomers, my advice is simple: write and share as much as possible. There are no shortcuts; your unique voice and methods will develop through dedication and consistency. You won’t have control over how your work is received, and that can be disheartening. However, the initial disillusionment will ultimately lead to growth.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to continue writing, even when the end goal feels out of reach. I firmly believe that those who show up and take action will find success. Don’t let negative feedback or silence deter you; if you remain committed, something will resonate. Once you develop a writing habit, it becomes an integral part of who you are—like it has for me.
