For numerous years, I have delved into various methods for mental change, which can be referred to in many ways—spirituality, meditation, breathwork, among others. I prefer to consolidate these approaches under one umbrella term: psychospiritual technology. In simpler terms, this refers to techniques for instigating change in one’s own mind or that of another.

Some notable modalities I have explored include:

  • Vim Hof’s breathwork
  • Joe Dispenza’s meditative practices
  • Paul McKenna’s hypnotherapy

  1. What: What precisely is the problem? Is it anxiety, depression, or perhaps an inability to concentrate?
  2. How: In what situations does the problem manifest? What triggers it?
  3. Why: What are the origins of this issue? Are there physical or psychological factors at play?

Seeking the assistance of a professional counselor or therapist can be invaluable in this phase. Such experts can establish a safe space for exploration, leading to a comprehensive understanding of the issues at hand. This stage also allows us to define a desired outcome—how we wish to feel or behave instead.

Section 1.2: The Role of State in Transformation

Awareness alone does not lead to healing. Merely conceptualizing the problem does not provide a solution.

Techniques for mental state change

The subsequent phase in this three-step process is entering a state conducive to resolving the issue. It is challenging to effect change in the mind while in a typical alert state.

To effectively modify mental patterns, we must enter an altered state of consciousness. This is why many therapeutic techniques incorporate some form of trance-like experience.

Typically, this involves shifting brainwave states from Beta (normal consciousness) to Alpha, Theta, or even Delta, and occasionally Gamma. This principle is frequently referenced in hypnosis and guided meditations.

Chapter 2: Reprogramming the Mind

Once the mind is in a receptive state, reprogramming can begin.

This process often includes visualization exercises, where we train our minds to respond differently than in the past. The key is to visualize the preferred behaviors and situations in as much detail as possible, as the mind does not differentiate between what is real and what is imagined.

If this is achieved, the mind will shift its perception, treating the new imagined reality as the actual one. This process can require multiple sessions, particularly for deeply ingrained issues.
